Answer: Mindtree Basecamp is a specially designed pre- joining learning program for Campus recruits of Mindtree (Campus Minds) and a strategic investment from Mindtree. This is an initiative to equip and prepare you to excel in Orchard and largely in your career after you are on boarded.
What is the learning program delivered?
Answer: It is an online, technology-enabled and blended learning program. You will be provided a login account to the Basecamp program on a portal.
How will I benefit by participating in this program?
Answer: Basecamp is a special program that is designed to enable Campus Minds to develop your skill and perform better in Orchard (including the first week Pre-Assessment). It is significantly derived from professional research on the performances of previous batches of Campus Minds. You will also receive a 'Certificate of Completion' from Mindtree upon successfully completing the course with an overall score of 60%.
What does Basecamp cover at a high level?
Answer: It focuses on fundamentals of programming. It aims to make you a better programmer - that is essentially needed to be a good IT professional across different job-profiles. Basecamp consists of three courses:
Algorithms, Datastructures and Problem Solving (using C)
Object Oriented Programming (using Java)
Introduction to Structured Query Language (SQL)
Who delivers the Basecamp learning program to me?
Answer: Mindtree has partnered with Radix Learning (http://www.radixlearning.com) to deliver this learning program to you. Radix Learning specializes in providing next generation, technology-enabled learning solutions and assessment to corporate and educational institutions. It is headed by Dr. KRV (Raja) Subramanian, former Professor of Computer Science and Dean of Distance Learning at BITS, Pilani, now the CEO of Radix Learning. He is also an Adjunct Professor at IIIT, Bangalore.
What is the duration of Basecamp?
Answer: The duration of this program is 6 months from February 2013 to July 2013. There are three important milestones for this program, each with a duration of 1.5/2 months. We shall send you a calendar in due course of time.
What are the avenues for learning in Basecamp?
Answer: You can learn through the Learning Centre, Practice Centre, Self-Assessment Centre and Assessment Centre. The Three Courses would be delivered through these centres.
What does Learning Centre contain?
Answer: It consists of content that is available in the form of interactive, multimedia lessons that builds conceptual awareness, knowledge & techniques through structured self-learning. You would need to spend an overall of 100 hours here with 50-60 hours on the Portal. It is designed to take care of people with different learning style and pace.
What does Practice Centre contain?
Answer: It consists of Practice Assignments that deepens your conceptual understanding that build your problem solving/application skill and enables Learn by Doing. It contains ~15 Quizzes and ~30 Practice problems of ~200 hours. Solve these problems that are computer based and task centric and sharpen your programming competencies. Automated evaluation of these programs will provide you with rich feedback for improving yourselves.
What does Self-Assessment Centre contain?
Answer: It consists of MCQs and task-centric Problems that help you to know the knowledge and skill that you have developed, evaluate your own competencies and identify your strengths and areas of improvements. You could benchmark yourselves against a peer group of learners from your Campus batch of Mindtree recruits.
What does Assessment Centre contain?
Answer: It contains task-centric assessments that are automatically evaluated as well as Programming assignments to be done at specific dates and submitted through task-centric assessments. That would be part of your overall evaluation. You also get a comprehensive report on your Programming skill and onboarding readiness. This consists of ~6 online quizzes per batch (one per month), ~25 programming assignments (one per week) and Two Final Assessments.
What about the Final Assessments?
Answer: You will have two Final Assessments - both would consist of MCQs and Task centric programming problems.
One on the online portal at the end of the program

What kind of Support desk can I expect during the program from Basecamp learning champions?
Answer: Support desk is available to you through telephone and email. This will be available from 9 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays. Includes technical and customer support (issues relating to learning portal, user accounts, etc.) as well as learning support (queries about training plan, queries about practice tasks and solutions, etc.)
How can I interact with the Basecamp learning champions?
Answer: We shall have Fortnightly Mentoring sessions that are online and synchronous conducted by Experts to share expertise and provide clarifications. Of course, we will have a lot of Learning engagement e-mails to help deepen learning consisting of important learning aids as well as responses to queries. At times, we shall end Automated Alerts.
Structured and Periodic Learning progress reports too should be considered as interaction with Basecamp learning champions.
Beyond all of these, you will have Special interventions from Experts in critical situations :)
How should I know if I am on the right track with respect to this program?
Answer: Very good question. It is very essential that you participate in this learning program and equip yourselves with sufficient programming skills before coming onboard. Please note the following important points.
You will need to spend at least 150 hours on the Portal in order to be considered for onboarding.
You will need to complete at least 60% of the assignments in order to be considered as ready for onboarding.
Performance in your assignments and assessments in Basecamp will be positively considered for onboarding. Higher performance in Basecamp, higher the possibilities of being on boarded earlier.
Any malpractice will be dealt with very severely, as per the standard Mindtree policy. Integrity is very highly valued in Mindtree.
What are the first steps towards getting onto the Basecamp?
Answer: You will receive a Welcome mail from Mindtree containing program details on the lines of the content of this FAQ. This will be followed by another Welcome mail with Radix Learning with login details. That's it - you can get started.
In the first few days of your program, your relevant programming experience will be understood. This will be followed by diagnostic assessments to help structure your learning better. Eventually a customized Learning plan shall be created for you.
